| In case anybody still checks this.... So some of you may have heard that there were some serious fires in San Diego county. Some numbers I heard were 500,000 acres burned and 1800 structures burned. I believe it is still burning in some areas. Anyway, my family is fine. We stayed up Monday night in shifts, and then on Tuesday we decided to get out of here. We weren't particularly worried about our house burning, but we wanted to get out of the smoky air and we didn't want to have to stay up all night every night. So we headed out to the dessert with some other friends for a couple days. We were able to return to our home on Thursday, and the house was still there, so that was good. The air is still pretty smoky but at least we don't have to keep watch all night long. Just thought I would let you know. Daniel | | |
| Whoa... it's been a long time since the last update! I was informed by *ahem* somebody that I never update, so I told him that I would. Well, life goes on. I survived calculus at the community college over the summer, and now I'm in calc 2 (which for some reason isn't any easier than calc 1... ) and physics, which is interesting but very tough. It's supposed to be one of the hardest classes on that campus. I'm still working at the same place, washing windows and carpets. Same old same old. Sorry it's so short, but I should probably do some homework. Until next time! Daniel | | |
| so it's been like forever and a day.... maybe two days... I figure I will update so that you all can some idea of what I've been doing. School and work. That about sums it up. But I've also done some cool stuff, like work on the stage crew for my sisters' play. They did the play Peter Pan. One sister was Wendy, and the other sister was a lost child. I had quite a bit of fun, in that we hired ZFX to do the flying effects and I got to fly the character John. It was quite fun. Basically, I would pull on a rope, and the fellow attached to the other end would go flying up into the air. The first few nights it was pretty intense, because the actors would screw up and we would have to do it again, and again.... and again. My forearms can only take so much, you know. But I survived, and the show went really well. I think we sold out all four shows. If you want to see some of the other stuff ZFX does, go to http://www.zfxflying.com/media.html Here is a picture of me pulling on the rope.
This picture kinda gives you an idea of what the flying looked like. That there is Peter Pan way up in the air (my mom evidently couldn't keep up with the motion and get all of her in the picture)
And of course, I got into the spirit of things, and decided to dress up a bit myself... and what better choice for a person who has to dress up in all black than... a ninja!
So that was cool... Now I'm in finals week, and then FREEDOMMM!!! until the summer semester starts. I think I'm taking calculus over the summer, and everybody has been telling me that that is going to be really hard, especially since I'm skipping pre-calc. But it looks like I'll be at my community college for the next year and a half or so doing math and physics if I want to transfer into an engineering major. So... I think that that'll be all for now. Fight the good fight! Daniel | | |
| Hey there, y'all. I thought I would post something here, for no particular reason except that which is that I haven't posted in a rather long time. So, not much is new. I have been going to school and working. That is pretty much about it. Although I have found that my driving time between my house and the office is a great time to pray. I find it a bit energizing, actually. It's really cool just to take time and pray for other people. I usually start with like the families in my church and pray for them (and a lot of times for individuals within those families) and the expand from there to other friends, people in Japan, whatever. Tis quite nice. TC came over tonight and we had a couple of Japanese guys over that the two of us know from school. It was a fun night, and it was good to connect with these two guys. Oh, did I mention anything about Faithwalkers in my last post? I don't remember. Anyway, Toby and I get to the airport, and we walk up to the counter and show the dude out itineraries, and he searches for a while and can't find out flights. Then it hits him... I had mistakenly made the reservations for January instead of December, which means that we have a no-go on those tickets. That sparked some frantic phone calls to get us some new tickets, but we got them (thanks to a good friend out on the East coast), but we made it out there and it was really good. Um... lessee... my birthday was in February, and Toby and I went snowboarding that day, and not much else happened. No big party or anything. But snowboarding was fun, except that Toby smacked his head pretty hard and didn't have the best day. Oh, and one of my Japanese students came out here for my birthday, too. Actually, I think it was more of an excuse just to get out here. But she came all the same, and it was fun to see her again. Well, I think that's about it for now.
